Long Hair :: Don’t Care

Long Hair Dont Care

My hair grows really fast; actually an average of one inch per month. I made up my mind about a year ago that I really wanted to grow my hair down to my waist. Now, I’ve “decided” this many times in the past but have never been successful since 4th grade at least (my hair was literally down to my knees in elementary school). I think I managed to grow my hair down to my bra line a couple of times in the past before I totally got sick of it and chopped it off. I love change and typically get tired of everything fairly quickly.

This week, I happened to walk by the large glass doors in my house and stopped dead in my tracks. Luckily I was by myself because I spent a ridiculous amount of time checking myself out. I couldn’t believe it; my hair was actually down to my waist. I did it! And the surprising part is that I’m not sick of it, I have no desire to chop it off and I actually still really like it.

More Blonde Hair 560
At the end of July I decided to bite the bullet and get some blonde streaks in my dark brown hair (you can see the post HERE). Well, I liked it so much that I decided to go back and add more.  I never, ever blow dry my hair because it takes way too long.  My hair is down to my waist.  But, my hairdresser always blow dries and straightens it.  I haven’t washed it yet, so I’m eager to see what it will look like when it’s wavy as usual.  So far, I can say…I’m in love!

Summer Hair

Highlighted Hair Ombre

I’ve never really played around like hair color, at least in a salon anyway.  I’ve done a few box colors here and there but because my hair is very dark, it is difficult to get any box color to take to my hair except for maybe a black color.  I decided to take the plunge and go to the salon for a color.  I was shooting for the ombre look initially.  Once I got to the salon, I told my very trusted hair dresser that I wanted the ombre look but was looking for a more natural, beachy look.

Remember, I have never gotten a salon color done before.  Let’s just say that I have a big head of hair to say the least.  Because of this and because my hairdresser applied color to my hair in very tiny pieces, I spent over an hour in the chair just getting the color and foils applied.  The entire process; color application and set time, rinse, toner application and set time, rinse, brush and dry took about three hours!  I was very surprised by the length of the process but I really like the ladies in the salon so it all worked out.

Because I typically let my hair air dry I hadn’t planned on getting my hair blow dried but my hair dresser insisted so that she could assess the color which made complete sense.  The results ended up a bit different than I expected.  I expected a more drastic look but since I asked for something more natural, I did end up with the beachy highlighted look.  Even though it wasn’t what I expected, I really do like it.  Now my next decision will be whether or not I’ll end up going more drastic or sticking with the natural beachy look as it is.   I’m excited to see what it looks like once I let it dry wavy.  I’ll definitely be ready for the beach!

Smooth Hair – Don’t Care

I am a product junkie by nature. You name it and I’ve probably tried it; hair, make-up, skin care and nail products. I’m rarely wowed by a product so when I do find something remarkable, I have to talk about it.

Let’s just say, I’m pretty cheap so buying salon products is a rarity for me unless it is on clearance. Living in a very high humidity area can do a number on even the best of hair. I have naturally wavy and somewhat thick, course hair but the summer heat and humidity had gotten to me making my hair poofy and frizzy. It had been about 9 months since I had been in a hair salon. On a whim, I asked my hair dresser (who knows my hair well) if she had anything that could fix this problem. She immediately went to the shelf and pulled out a shampoo and conditioner by Matrix labeled “sleek” promising that it would get rid of the frizz and make my hair smooth and tame. I’m always hesitant because I’m somewhat of a naturalist. I do not blow dry, use much (if any) product, or even use a brush. I purchased the shampoo and conditioner after getting a very minor trim. In the back of my mind, I knew that after using this product my hair wouldn’t just dry tame and smooth.

Hair Product Review

PROCESS & REVIEW :: I shampooed and conditioned my hair using the Matrix sleek products. After towel drying my hair, I added a nickel sized amount of Biosilk Silk Therapy (since I already had at home) throughout my hair distributing it evenly using a large wide toothed comb. From there I simply let it air dry. The results – perfectly smooth and tame waves; no frizz and no poof. I paid a salon price but it was worth every penny. Wash, comb and go. What more could you ask for? I give these products 5 stars.

The Hair Assessment

In the past, when searching for a new hairstyle or haircut, I would spend countless hours going through magazines and doing Google image searching to find the perfect cut. I would print out or put on my iPhone this perfect hair pic that I found. Sometimes this process would work out great and sometimes not so great.

This time, when trying to figure out what in the world to do with this mop on my head, I decided to go through my own past hairstyle pics. Why in the world didn’t I think of this before? It’s brilliant. Honestly, what was I thinking with using celebrity hair pics anyway? I will NEVER come out on the other side looking like a celebrity. I have my own color, hair type and face shape. Going this route means that my hair will be the best me I can be.

The search brought me to this collage. I’ve chosen to get a trim in order to grow my hair out to look like the pic on the bottom left. It’s by far my best hair yet.
